Die Richtung geht meiner Meinung nach in "Vom Regen in die Traufe". Denn das Sprichwort heißt glaube ich vollständig stuck between an rock and a hard place. Man steckt zwischen zwei Dingen fest, die beide nicht nachgeben.

In der Zwickmühle stecken, in der Klemme sein bedeutet das.
Man kann auch sagen:
“Between the devil and the deep blue sea”

ich nehme mal an das heißt soviel wie "zwischen 2 stühlen sitzen

Das sind zwei ganz verschiedene Arten Musik.

Ähnlich zu vergleichen wie Jazz mit Techno.

erst war blues, dann rythmn and blues.

aber im fall von rock and roll, ist das meiner meinung nach nur eine entwicklung im sprachgebraucht. heute findet man unter der bezeichnung "rock" auch die sachen welche früher rock n roll waren.

Auch wenn sie namentlich sehr ähnlich klingen sind es trotzdem völlig verschiedene Stilrichtungen.

Der Rock´n´Roll soll animieren zum Tanzen.
Der Rock eher zum Zuhören anstecken und die künstlerische Gabe wie ein Genie ein Instrument beherrscht zu geniessen. wow

Rock´n Roll entstand aus dem Blues/Ragtime/Dixie-Jazz und war in der Hauptsache zunächst eine Musik der schwarzen Bewohner Amerikas.
Die Weiße Bevölkerung nahm diese Musik zunächst mal gar nicht zur Kenntnis, weil sie sie einfach nicht zu hören bekam, denn es gab Rassentrennung und ein von Weissen dominiertes Radioprogramm.
Doch hie und da sickerte der Rythmus durch und da es nun bekantermassen die Rassentrennung gab und "Weiße Radiostationen" keine
"Schwarze Musik" spielten, nahmen sich wie Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddy Cochran, Bill Haley& Comets, Elvis Presley und viele mehr dieser Musik an. Die Musik dieser Interpreten nennt man den Weißen Rock´n Roll, während Chuck Berry, Fats Domino u.v.m. für die andere Seite standen.
